Location: Torchlight Parade into Mountain Village and the Town of Telluride coinciding with Fireworks in Mountain Village
At 6:30 the Telluride Ski and Snowboard School instructors ride down both sides of the mountain carrying lit flares illuminating the ski runs creating a beautiful scene. A spectacular display of holiday fireworks follows the torchlight parade. Don’t miss the countdown in front of the Court House in Telluride at midnight; it’s the perfect way to ring in the New Year!

Celebrating four decades of classic rock, Jefferson Starship will play a night of classic hits including “White Rabbit,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us,” “Jane” and many more to ring in 2014. Jefferson Starship, created by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Jefferson Airplane founder Paul Kantner and David Frieberg, also a frmer Jefferson Airplane member will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2014. The band, descended from Jefferson Airplane — who performed at Monterey and Woodstock, at Altamont with the Rolling Stones and shared the bill countless times with the Greatful Dead and Janis Joplin, and whose music helped definte a generation focused on civil rights, environmental awareness and anti-war activism — will perform from its landmark recordings “Dragonfly” and “Red Octopus.” Jefferson Starship is fronted by acclaimed singer Cathy Richardson, star of the play “Love, Janis”, long time members Donny Baldwin (drums) and Chris Smith (keyboard/bass) and guitarist Jude Gold round out the linup. 2013 proved another remarkable year for the stalwart, iconic band — whose diverse projects and performances include a symphony engagement, boradcast across the U.S. on HDNET and their heralded appearance on PBS, headlining “60s Rock, Pop & Soul,” which still airs coast to coast.

MarchFourth is far from a marching band in any traditional sense, anchored by funk electric bass, they carry audiences to the African jungle by way of Brazil with samples from the best of American funk, rock and jazz. Buy VIP tickets for private seating and a private bar.

Telluride Ski Resort along with the Sheridan Arts Foundation presents “MarchFourth Marching Band.” Portland musicians and circus performers that have developed quite the local and regional following after performing at Telluride Jazz Festival, Telluride Blues and Brews Festand the Sheridan Opera House. 20+ person band is far from what you’ll see during any halftime show.

Mixing musical styles that span world genres, yet anchored in their 5-piece percussion corps and 7-part brass section, MarchFourth Marching Band and its lively performers of stilt walkers and acrobats produce a show more reminiscent of a musical circus.

Tickets $20 (plus nominal ticketing fee) 9 p.m. show, 8:30 doors

“The Alaskan Way” Movie Screening” @ Sheridan Opera House

The San Juan Field School, an avalanche education resource in Telluride, presents the world premier of documentary “The Alaskan Way”, a 59-minute documentary about the risks and rewards of Heli Ski guiding in Haines Alaska. During the filming of this movie, Telluride local Rob Liberman and another skier perished in an avalanche. Tickets are a $10 donation to the Field School at the door.
